Dress Code
MHP students wear school uniforms — encouraging students to express their individuality through personality and academic achievements, creating a professional atmosphere conducive to learning, and minimizing peer-to-peer bullying based on what you are, or are not, wearing.

Bottoms
Business casual: tan, khaki, black, or gray solid-colored dress bottoms.
- Dress slacks, shorts, skorts, skirts, and cargo pants and shorts are allowed
- All shorts and skirts must go to the knee, with or without tights
- No cut-off shorts or bottoms with any tears, rips, or holes (even with patches underneath)
- No overalls (with pants or shorts), sweat pants, or pajama bottoms
- Leggings or tights can only be worn under shorts and skirts (to the knee) and must be solid gray or black
- Bottoms must be the appropriate size, with the waist of the garment worn at the student’s waist
- No embellishments, screen prints, or other embroidery — bottoms must be solid color (does not apply to home-made “Senior” jeans)
- Clothing that is too tight or too loose is not appropriate for school
Tops
Any MHP or CAVIT top.
- MHP polos: purple, black, gray, white
- MHP T-shirts: activity, club, sports fundraisers
- CAVIT scrubs, uniform polos, or T-shirts
- MHP, CAVIT, or CAA tournament hoodies
- Students may wear a solid-color long-sleeve undershirt under their polo or T-shirt
Jackets, Coats & Blankets
- Any jacket or cover-up/pullover garment worn at school (sweater, sweater vest, sweatshirt, hoodie, shawl, etc.) must have an approved MHP logo
- Hoods must be off the head while in the classroom
- On very cold days, students who walk, bike, etc. may wear sweatpants or additional clothing over their school uniform on the way to and from school — but any clothing that does not meet dress code must be removed before entering the school building
- This policy extends to blankets — blankets must be put away when students come into the building
Special Days
Friday Dress
On Fridays, students may wear blue jeans (no rips, tears, or holes — even with patches underneath) for $1 to support Student Council activities.
Dress Down Fundraiser Days
Throughout the year, clubs and sports sponsor dress-down days. Students follow the prescribed theme and typically pay $1–$2 for the privilege.
“Where Are You Going?” Wednesday
To promote MHP’s college-going culture, students may wear a college or military T-shirt, polo, sweater, jersey, or jacket on any Wednesday. Uniform bottoms must be worn.
Spirit Days
On spirit days students may dress to the day’s theme. Students not in a reasonable interpretation of the theme, or dressed indecently, will be asked to change.
Game Days
Athletes and team managers are encouraged to show solidarity by dressing alike: their jersey (with appropriate undergarment if the top is sleeveless) with school uniform bottoms.
Field Trips
Students dress as if it were a Friday: an MHP T-shirt or polo, and jeans (no rips, tears, or holes) at no cost.
Other Dress Code Rules
- All headwear (hats, hoods, bandanas, beanies, etc.), other than for medical or religious reasons, must be removed when entering the classroom
- No costume-type attire (animal ears, tails, face-painting, etc.) unless on a specified school spirit day or holiday
- No masks, ski-masks, or other apparel covering the face anywhere on campus during the school day, unless given specific permission by administration
- No sandals, slippers, “house shoes,” flip flops, Crocs, open-toed shoes, or soft-soled shoes (i.e. moccasins)
- Students are not allowed to “dress up” for classroom presentations or projects
- Alterations to MHP attire must be approved by administration before being worn at school
Dress Down Wristbands
Students may use two types of dress-down wristbands allowing non-MHP (but school-appropriate) attire. Wristbands are available as rewards or can be purchased with Phantom Bucks or cash in the front office, and must be put on the wrist by a staff member. Purple wristbands can only be used on Friday; Gold wristbands can be used any day of the week.
Even with a wristband, students may NOT wear: tops exposing a bare midriff; spaghetti straps or halter-tops (shirts must cover the shoulders); deeply/narrowly cut shirts (no cleavage; no basketball jerseys without appropriate undergarments); clothing not covering the buttocks, genital area, or underwear (baggy/saggy pants, short skirts); bottoms with rips, holes, or tears; pajamas, blankets, leggings, and tights; see-through fabric; shorts and skirts above the knee; clothing/accessories/jewelry/skin markings with symbols or messages regarding tobacco, alcohol, drugs, race, gambling, obscenities, nudity, weapons, profanity, or sexual connotations; clothing identified by law enforcement as popular with gangs (trench coats, gang names, slang street names, eight-ball markings); bandanas of any color, size, or shape (carried or displayed); hats, hoods, head scarves/skull caps, and hairnets (other than medical or religious); ribbed white tank-top underwear; house slippers, flip flops, and Crocs; items presenting a hazard to health or safety (chains, spiked collars, spiked wristbands, etc.); items that could damage school property; items that interfere with school work or disrupt the educational program.
At the discretion of a staff member, students may be directed to wear school-provided shirts if their clothing is deemed inappropriate.
Formal Dance Dress Code
As a college-preparatory school, we need to be as classy as possible at these events.
- Midriff dresses are not allowed
- Strapless dresses are not allowed
- Slits in dresses are not allowed (no temporary alterations — staples, safety pins, tape — to close a slit)
- Dresses must go below the knee (no part of the knee cap showing)
- Students not in dresses should be in pants (no blue jeans) and a full button-up shirt (no polos); ties are recommended
- Staff reserve the right to ask any student to put on a cover, refrain from dancing, or leave if their outfit is not appropriate — bring a covering just in case (one will be provided if not)
- Students not allowed entry due to dress code violations are not eligible for a ticket refund
Ordering MHP Uniforms & Accessories
All Mission Heights uniform tops are purchased at MHP only. View the current apparel and price list, then order and pay through the school’s Online Payments page (select the uniform option and note quantity, color, type, and size — e.g. “1 Gray Zip-Up Hoodie, Large”). The front office will pull the order and give it to the student.
