Frequently Asked Questions
Why did The Leona Group decide to open a high school in Casa Grande?
Leona picked Casa Grande as the central location for all of the surrounding communities and built a small, rigorous college preparatory high school with high expectations and quality educators including a personalized and tailored high school experience for all students that enroll. Our mission is to provide all students who want to attend with a rigorous college-prep education. Click here for more information about The Leona Group.
You said your school is a "college prep" school. Would you explain what you mean by college prep? In concept could this be perceived as a "private" school?
Mission Heights is a free, public, college prep school. We believe that all students should have the option to attend a college or university of their choice. Together with rigorous course work, such as honors and AP classes, as well as concurrent enrollment in college courses - producing high ACT, SAT and AIMS test scores - extracurricular activities, the AVID curriculum and the support of the teachers and administration, any student at Mission Heights will be prepared to effectively compete at any level of higher education. Check out the different pages under the Quality School tab to learn more about us.
Do you have bus transportation available to students who enroll?
Yes, we have bus transportation available through Beeline. We cannot guarantee bus service to all areas, but bus routes and times are available in the front office of the school. Click here for information about our transportation services.
Do you expect/require parent involvement in your school?
We provide opportunities for parents to become involved in Mission Heights and our programs, and parent involvement is strongly encouraged. Parents can volunteer to chaperone school dances, help with clubs and activities, or join our Parent-Teacher organization. If you are interested in volunteering or serving on a booster club, please contact the school.
What about sports and other extracurricular activities?
In an effort to create well-rounded students, we provide many sports, clubs and extracurricular activities for our students. Click here for a listing of our clubs and athletics.
As a college prep school, what are your expectations of students? Homework? Extracurricular activities? Community involvement? AIMS scores? etc.
Students have high expectations placed upon them by their teachers, their administration and hopefully themselves. Students are given relevant and necessary homework in all of their courses. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities and to become involved in the community.
Are your teachers more experienced with college prep classes than teachers who are hired for a traditional public school where students have various pathways for success? ie. college, trade school, work, military...
We hire teachers who are passionate about sending students to college with the highest level of preparation possible. All teachers are experienced and undergo specialized teacher training in rigor to ensure their honors and AP classes, as well as the normal curriculum, are highly relevant and productive.
